Benefits
How it works
The Cosmelan® method uses a unique, dual-action process to correct and regulate, resulting in a reduction of pigmentation for both a short-term and consistent long-term results.
Cosmelan’s corrective action works by exfoliating the surface layers of the skin to remove melanin accumulation and rejuvenate short term. The regulatory action then targets the source of pigmentation by reducing hyper melanin synthesis and blocking the transfer of melanin, evening skin tone long term. |

What to Expect
During the treatment the skin will be prepped with an oil removing solution to allow even penetration of the peel. Tingling and a strong smell are expected.
The thick, clay colored Cosmelan® mask will be applied and must be left on at home for a period of 8-12 hours. The duration will be dependent on Fitzpatrick type and skin condition and professional recommendation. Whilst the mask is on, a plain water mist, can need to be used to keep the product moist (not wet) to ensure it does not dry out. Once the mask has been left on for the desired time, it will need to be completely but gently removed at home using room temperature water and fibrella wipes, these will be provided by the clinic. Once removed a pea-size amount of melan recovery is to be applied and allowed to dry before bed. Immediately after removing your mask at home, moderate erythema (redness) and heat is to be expected. |

how MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
Provided you follow the home-care Only one round of the Cosmelan® is required to see results in the reduction of unwanted pigmentation. Depending on the severity or underlying cause of pigmentation, further treatments can be performed 6-12 monthly to manage recurrence.
what distinguishes Cosmelan from other depigmentation treatments?
Other depigmentation treatments, such as laser or chemical peels, limit their action to removing the appearance of the pigment accumulated in the skin making the spot less visible, but do not address the second part of the equation when it comes to pigmentation, which is long term management by regulation and prevention. Cosmelan has a dual visible corrective and regulating action to treat the concern and help prevent the recurrence of visible pigment as well.
